Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is a collaborative storytelling game where players create characters, work together as a team, and explore epic adventured led by a storyteller called a Game Master (sometimes “Dungeon Master”).
The stage is set and plot placed by the Game Master, and then using rules and dice to guide the outcomes, the players attempt to resolve the story in the way they see fit!
No prior knowledge is needed to take part in this collaborative storytelling experience!

The way it works is rather simple.
Step 1: Create a character
Choose who you want to be in the story, and what skills, strengths, and weaknesses they have.
This will determine how easy or hard it is for your character to complete particular tasks and how they might react to different situations.
Step 2: Make a decision
Listen to your Game Master as they explain where your character is and what’s happening around them.
Then, tell the table what your character would do! Remember to make use of all the strengths in your party, not just your individual character!
Step 3: Roll some dice!
If the decision you made in Step 2 has a chance of failure - like picking the lock on a treasure chest, sneaking past an angry goblin, or slaying a dragon - then you’ll need to roll some dice! The number you’ll need to roll depends on the skills of your character!
Whether success or failure, the story continues! Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you get to Step 4…
Step 4: Create Legends!
That’s all there is to it! After an intense session of making decisions, rolling dice, and reveling in the successes (and failures) of your party’s choices, you’ll have crafted a memorable and wonderful story!

Why People Love Dungeons & Dragons
-
Although standard D&D features rules for combat and fighting, because the game is imaginary, it can be endlessly tuned and reworked to suit any crowd! Worlds can be adjusted to suit the interests of the players, plots can be altered to create more drama, and themes can be added or removed to alter the overall feeling of the game!
-
No two games of D&D can ever be the same, as settings, players, options, and dice rolls cause different outcomes! It is infinitely replayable!
-
In D&D, players are regularly faced with complex challenges and situations, and have to use their character’s skills to find resolutions.
D&D takes place entirely in the imaginations of the players, so your character can attempt to do anything to try and resolve the plot! But if it’s a risky move, then they’ll have to roll some dice!
-
The ultimate goal of D&D is to make a story together, sharing ideas to fix imagined problems, face imagined threats, with imagined massive stakes! The very nature of the game requires players to work together and to work with their Game Master to write a compelling, entertaining, and masterful narrative together.
