About Us

Welcome to the Red Lion Adventuring Company, a haven for all manner of adventurers looking for work. We offer bespoke opportunities for people to learn and play tabletop roleplaying games - mostly 5.5e Dungeons & Dragons - through specially designed adventures.

If you’ve been looking for a way to play Dungeons & Dragons, this is your in! Whether you have a group already (but no Game Master), or you’re on your own and looking for new people to try the hobby with, you’ve come to the right place.

Our Mission

The goal, ultimately, of the Red Lion Adventuring Company, is to help more people engage with their imaginations, and with the imaginations of the people around them.

In a world where art itself is under threat, a slew of struggles are ever-present, and the whimsy of nature and history are undermined slowly by the pressing of corporate interests, it’s become ever more important for people to engage in stories and to find other avenues by which to feel and think, and other places in which to laugh and cry.

The mission of this company is simply to inspire, encourage, and facilitate the growing and expanding of human minds through shared storytelling. Whether those minds be young, developing, or fully-grown, we believe there is space within all to participate in and benefit from the joyful experiences we offer.

What We Do

The Red Lion Adventuring Company has great potential to grow into many avenues and directions, but for now what is offered is simple; a professional game-mastering service for 5.5th edition Dungeons & Dragons game sessions.

For most people who wish to get into Dungeons & Dragons, there’s many ways to get started, but not many to stay playing. Some people start with a “Beginner’s Night” at their local game store (we also offer these), or watch the game played online by groups like Critical Role, but after that… then what?

We offer solutions for the weird in-between; when you already know the basics but don’t know enough to run your own game for a group. Whether you have a group of interested friends and want a game master to facilitate the story for you, or you want to drop in for a single-session adventure and have some laughs with new people, we’ve got you covered. We offer game opportunities for all, whether brand new to the genre, or veterans of dice and sword. You can check out our whole range of offered services here.

About the Founder

Myself (middle) and some happy players after a successful adventure!

Wow. You’ve made it this far? Thank you for reading.

Hi there, I’m Cameron O’Connell - founder, owner, and game master for the Red Lion Adventuring Company. I started this as a means by which to help others participate in the joyous experience of collaborative storytelling, through a professional, respectful, and well-refined manner.

When I was first introduced to tabletop roleplaying games, it seemed simply a niche, unique form of board gaming, but the more I played the more it changed me. I’ve found that through the simple acts of roleplaying, testing my improvisation skills, and pushing myself to explore fantasies undreamt, I’ve transfigured entirely into a new person. What started as a hobby to me provided myself with a confidence, compassion, and joy otherwise unseen.

I began tabletop roleplaying gaming in 2017 using 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons, with friends from high school, and a close friend of mine game mastering. Even before our first session, I found myself thinking what the adventure might become and what character I would play. By the time we actually began to play, I was infatuated with the possibilities.

A year later, I was asked by a different friend if I would run a game for them and another group, and I leapt at the opportunity. For years afterwards, this adventuring band and myself would meet weekly to stay up late into the night and collaboratively create hilarious stories together, and together we developed characters and arcs which genuinely mattered to us, inspiring us to create and dream, even between game sessions.

During these years, I would work, study, and eventually become a high school English teacher, where I would teach youth to engage with and immerse themselves in literature.

Soon enough, I would have two jobs in which I inspire others to partake in stories. I began professionally Game Mastering in 2025 at the suggestion of family and friends, and I named the business the Red Lion Adventuring Company, after the business of the very same name which my first ever Dungeons & Dragons character founded. His name is Roryk Blackclaw, and his dream was to collect people with great skills and strengths and to provide them with work - adventures and quests - which would benefit them and the world. What I wanted to do didn’t seem so different; gathering players and giving them adventures, and so the legacy of my first-ever D&D character lives on in the work I do in the real world. Now, I spend my time finding people with great imaginations and endless creative energies and facilitating their adventures amidst perilous and exciting plots and settings.

Every character, and every world we create is said to contain a little piece of ourselves. Who knew that my own creation, Roryk Blackclaw - the Red Lion of Cirtirberry - would then put something of himself into my world?

A much more-recent (2024) rendition of Roryk, having accomplished much over the years, though he wouldn’t have accomplished much without the help of his lawyer/bard/friend Abel (not pictured).

The first concept of the Red Lion Adventuring Company logo, featuring blue (loyalty), black (constancy), stag antlers (fortitude), marigold (devotion), a griffin (valour), chains (service), bells (to disperse evil), a torch (zeal), and an axe (duty). The new version is a lot simpler.
